Department of Computer Science has started functioning with BTech in Computer Science & Engineering in 2004 with an intake of 60 students. The department flourished with the support of dedicated faculty members and experienced supporting staff. The department has been expanded by introducing a new BTech course in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, in 2023. The applications of AI and ML is extensive and growing quickly. It is being used in diverse fields including Natural Language Processing, IoT and even in Health Care. This course would definitely help students acquire in depth knowledge in ML technology and thereby become capable of meeting industry needs. Both the courses are affiliated to Kerala Technological University.  Presently, the strength of Computer Science & Engineering course has been increased to 120. The present status of intake is as follows. 

 

The major objective of the department is to help the students achieve their goals by providing in-depth knowledge in fundamental courses and getting them exposed to latest technologies. It also aims to improve the personality of students by making them part of different training programmes as well as extra curricular activities. 

The college is equipped with a full fledged Computing facility. The functioning of the department is supported with four Laboratories- Lab I, Lab II, Free & Open Source Software(FOSS) Lab and SDPK Lab. Computer labs have a potential of around 150 systems connected by LAN .Presently it avails 100mbps broadband internet connectivity. Students can use the Computer labs from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM on all working days. Our department possesses computing facilities that support not only academic activities but also training programmes for students & faculty, government-level examinations such as PSC and other entrance examinations.

Apart from Desktop machines, Server machines and Laptops are made available to facilitate various activities. Moodle server is also maintained in Computer Lab I that provides support for ICT enabled teaching learning process. Since its inception, the Department promotes open source software & platforms. To provide the students with adequate learning experience in FOSS, a separate laboratory is set up with more than 50 machines.

The department has an efficient  team of regular faculty with high qualification including Doctorate and post-graduation and experience ranging from 14 to 25 years. The specialization areas of faculty include Machine Learning, Image Processing, Networking, Computational Biology &  Bioinformatics .  The project proposals of faculty in the department are approved and funded by research agencies like CERD, KSCSTE. Faculty members have published research articles in reputed journals both national and international. Also expert talks are delivered by faculty to other institutions in areas of Parallel Processing, Image processing, Optimisation algorithms for Bio molecular analysis and Machine learning.
